전세계 음악인과 팬들이 1년 중 가장 손꼽아 기다리는 그래미 어워즈가
바로 며칠 뒤로 다가와서 오랜만에 기본적인 정보를 찾아보았다.
흔히들 Grammy Awards 그래미 어워즈 혹은 Grammy 그래미라고들 하는 이 음악 시상식은
본래는 Gramophone Award 그라모폰 어워드라고 불렸는데,
알다시피 주로는 영어권 음악계 기반/대상으로 Recording Academy에서 주관하는 시상식이다.
한 해 동안 열심히 팝음악을 듣고
해당 음반과 빌보드 차트 등 다양한 관련 정보에 관심을 가져온 사람이라면
무엇보다도 매우 설레는 날 임에는 분명하다.
특히, 과거에 생중계가 어려웠던 열악함 속에서
한 두개 라디오나 TV 채널의 뒷소식이나 녹화방송을 기다렸던 시절과는 달리,
이제는 다양한 채널을 통해 전세계가 이 음악축제를 실시간으로 함께 즐길 수 있다는 것은
음악팬들 더더욱 흥분시키는 일이 아닐 수 없다.
게다가 자신이 좋아하는 뮤지션이 후보에 올랐다면 더더욱.
그리고, 후보에 오른, 혹은 다양한 이슈의 화제의 뮤지션들의 라이브 퍼포먼스 무대가 있기에
한 곳에서 함께 만나보기 힘든 해외 뮤지션들을 볼 수 있어
더더욱 그래미 어워즈를 기다리는 이유가 되기도 ㅎㅎ
솔직히 과거 그래미 어워즈가 훨씬 더 재밌었던 것 같기는 하다.
요즘 그래미는 과거보다 무대 연출이나 보여지는 들려지는 시스템이 훨씬 발달되었으나,
설명할 수 없는 그 무엇이 과거 기억에 더 열광하게 만들어주는 듯. ㅎㅎ
하긴,,, 이번에도 내가 가장 좋아하는 1순위 아티스트가 후보에 오르지 않아서인 듯 하다.ㅎㅎ
활동은 꾸준히 하시는데, 왜 그래미에 안나가시는 건지 모르겠다.
후보에 오르지 않더라도 가서 앉아계시면 좋을 듯 한데...
뭐 그래도 다른 엄청난 뮤지션들이 노미네이트 되었으니 그들의 공연과 수상 소감에 기대가 크다.
이렇게 매년 2월 중 열리는 그래미 어워즈는 아카데미 어워즈와 함께,
음악과 영화를 사랑하는 전세계 엔터테인먼트 팬들에게
한 해를 마무리/시작하는 큰 즐거움인 듯 하다.
제1회 그래미 어워즈는 1959년 5월 4일 처음 열렸다고 하는데,
지금처럼 바로 직전 해인 1958년 한 해동안 주목할만한 활동을 한
음악인들을 대상으로 시작되어 현재에 이르고 있다.
지난 해 이맘 때인 2016년 2월 15일에 열린 제58회 그래미어워즈는
LA의 Staples Center에서 개최되었는데,
올해 그래미 어워즈 역시 같은 장소에서 진행될 예정이다.
